Call for New Editor-in-Chief:
International Journal of Housing Policy
The Management Board of the International Journal of Housing Policy (IJHP) is seeking to appoint a new Editor-in-Chief to follow Professor Richard Ronald (University of Amsterdam) who is demitting the role after 5 years.
IJHP was established in 2000 and is published by Taylor and Francis. The Journal is managed by a board comprising representatives from the Universities of Amsterdam, Delft, Glasgow, Heriot-Watt, Uppsala and York. IJHP isa leading forum for the critical analysis of housing policy, systems and practice from a social science perspective. Its focus is broad, addressing policy-relevant research and analysis from all parts of the world. The Journal seeks to place housing policies and practice in the context of other public policies and to link developments in housing with broader social, economic and political change.
The Editor-in-Chief will be well-established social science-based housing researcher, with an excellent record of research and publication, and an international outlook. The Editor-in-Chief will have demonstrable experience in the editorial aspects of academic journals. Joint applications from two individuals who are interested in a job sharing arrangement are also welcome.
It is anticipated that the incoming Editor will take up the position in early 2019, following a handover period. The period of appointment will be three years in the first instance, with the possibility of an extension. The post is not remunerated, although reasonable expenses are payable.
The Editor leads a team of Assistant Editors and an Editorial Assistant and is responsible to the Management Board, which grants the Editor full power and authority to lead on all editorial aspects of the Journal, in particular:
- Topromote and maintain the highest standards of academic excellence, ethical integrity, a commitment to academic freedom, and legal probity in editorial policy and practice;
- To commission or receive manuscripts submitted to the Journal;
- To give unbiased consideration to each manuscript submitted and to judge each on its merits, without regard to race, religion, nationality, gender, age, disability, political alignment, sexual orientation, seniority, or institutional affiliation of the author(s);
- To arrange to have manuscripts peer-reviewed or to reject manuscripts without peer review when they are considered inappropriate for the Journal’s scope;
- To ensure peer review of submitted manuscripts is conducted according to agreed and ethical peer review standardsfor the publication of articles, so as to ensure the integrity of peer review and assure the quality of published articles;
- To ensure peer review is mediated entirely via an online submission and peer review management system to an agreed timescale;
- To exercise oversight over and monitor the quality and quantity of manuscripts submitted, and the time taken to complete peer review;
- To make decisions on acceptability of manuscripts following peer review and to edit such manuscripts to ensure that all material published is of a suitable professional and academic standard;
- To deliver final versions of accepted manuscripts and illustrations in accordance with agreed timetables and guidelines;
- To compile issues of the Journal in line with the Journal’s agreed page budget;
- To delegate work to and supervise all deputy, associate and assistant editor(s), and editorial assistant(s) and to ensure that all members of the editorial board, authors and peer reviewers comply with agreed practice on the ethics of Journal publishing and respect the confidentiality of the review process;
- To make recommendations to the Management Board for appointments to posts within the editorial team and for appointments to the International Advisory Committee;
- To attend at least one Management Board meeting per annum and provide written and verbal reports on the academic achievements of the Journal and advice on the development of the Journal;
- To work within the budget available for editorial expenses and costs, as approved by the Management Board.
Written applications should be made in three parts: 1. a two-page CV; 2. a short critique/ appreciation of recent volumes of IJHP; and 3. the applicant’s ‘vision’ of how IJHP should be developed over the next five years.
